Confirmation was very different this year. With the age at which the children are confirmed being lowered, more children than usual were confirmed. In all 10 000 children took the vow to 'Renounce Satan . . .'. By far the largest number stood before the altar at Tafelsig - a total of 168!

In the run-up to confirmation, there were many hours of preparation: choir and orchestra rehearsals, outings, the valedictory get-togethers. Hours of excitement and tension - for the confirmands, their parents and teachers as well as the officiants who were commissioned to serve on this most important occasion.

Then followed the confirmation service itself. At last, after the years in Sunday school, Religious Instruction classes and Confirmation, the young boys and girls stand before the altar making their vow. Now they are no longer confirmands, they are welcomed to the youth!
