Youth weekend - Arcadia 23-25 September

“Let’s do it again"- It was a very exciting and wonderful time for the youth from Devon Park who had joined those in Arcadia Bishop Area for a specially arranged weekend youth get together.

Just as the first sunrays peeped through the skies, on Saturday 24 September 2011, the youth started arriving at their respective congregations. While the Arcadia district hosted the visiting Devon Park district at the Three Pools resort, the youth from Gelvandale and Korsten districts embarked on the Van Staden’s Flower Reserve. Here they took on the strenuous Forest Trail of 4,5km. The team spirit was on a high and although the endless steepness of the tricky trail was physically very demanding, the spirit amongst the youth could not be dampened. Afterwards the brave group were treated by the Bloem family with a feast fit for royalty. The evening saw the arrival of Bishop Athol Nel who was met and welcomed by small group of facilitators.
Although Sunday 25 September dawned before they could wink an eye, it was the day to which every youth was looking forward to. The orchestra set the mood, followed by the choir who expressed their expectation through their singing. Musically they didn’t fail to deliver and the rehearsals, practices and input really paid off and were well appreciated. After the service Apostle Mintoor and Bishop Nel opened their hearts into their lives when two youth sisters interviewed them. Interestingly enough the youth commented on how the men faced similar challenges in their youth days as the current youth do. This excitement sparked plans for the next such gathering when the youth of Cape Town will host them during the Youth Convention 2012.
