On Saturday 28 November 2009 the Sunday school children of Townsend Estate fought the need to sleep in as they were aware of the activities that lay ahead of them. A little drowsily they arrived at their congregation where they boarded vehicles that would transport them to Bergplaas in Stellenbosch for their annual picnic.

With the sun blazing down on them and the crystal clear blue pool gleaming at them invitingly they soon accepted the silent invitation to dive in. There were more than enough fun-filled activities to entertain them and Father Christmas arrived just in time to quench their thirst and cool them down with a few scoops of ice-cream. The Sunday school teachers reported sunburn and muscle ache the following day but the greatest reward for them was seeing their children happy.
