Comedy festival and family carnival

Marc Lottring Bellville Velodrome 228The members of Kuils River and Tafelsig Bishop Area harkened to the call to create a vibrant congregation through fellowship and recreational activities.
With this in mind events were planned for Friday 9 October 2009 - the Comedy evening - and Saturday 10 October 2009 - the Family carnival.

Approximately 3 000 members arrived at the Bellville Valedrome on Friday 9 October 2009 and after spending the evening in the company of Marc Lottering and Stuart Taylor they were in need of a cheek massages due to all the laughter.

The Recycle for Life theme played a central role in both planned events and for this reason each congregation hosted a Rags 2 Riches competition. Winning teams progressed through a number of elimination rounds and the final of the competition took place at the Family carnival. Large floats which were made by the members from each congregation escorted the finalists to the center stage.

More or less 12 000 members from across Cape Town arrived at the Western Cape School of Sport for the Family Carnival on Saturday 10 October 2009. A fun-filled programme had been arranged with water sports, Ferris wheel and other exciting rides on offer. Parents and children alike had a wonderful time. The senior members and Sunday school children who had created hand crafted goods from trash displayed and sold these items at an arts and crafts exhibition. The highly anticipated Mr. and Mrs. Rags 2 Riches competition brought the crowd to a standstill and they watched in awe as the contestants proudly displayed their beautifully designed garments which were made from recycled material.

The weekend brought members from across the city together with fun and laughter being the key to its success. Lessons were learnt by many who took note of the beautiful hand-crafted items made from material they thought had no value. The warm and loving feeling that was created by being together in this way could also be taken back into the respective congregations.
