Seniors visit 500 year old museum site

21112009(064)The Dias museum in Mossel Bay was erected during the 1960’s as the official site where the very first Europeans came ashore in the Cape more than 500 years ago. The senior members of Parkdene congregation came to visit this historic landmark where Bartholomew Dias first set foot ashore as he voyaged around Africa to find an alternative route to India.
The seniors had an educational adventure as they viewed a life-sized replica of the Diaz Caravel, visited the Shell Museum and Aquarium as well as the Ethno-Botanical Garden where the 500 year old post office tree is to be found. This tour brought back memories of days gone by when they were at school and burnt the midnight oil as they studied the many sea voyages of Prince Henry the Navigator who later instructed Bartholomew Dias to find a shortcut to India.
