On Saturday 21 March 2009, eight districts of the area cared for by Apostle De Vries participated in a Sports and Fun day for seniors. This was held at Vygieskraal Stadium in Athlone. Approximately 195 seniors participated in this special day, which was arranged by the senior coordinators. 75 of the seniors marched onto the field in their drum majorettes gear and gave a glimpse of some of the moves they made in their hey-day. The day was started off with the singing of the national anthem and Bishop Lutuli opening with a prayer. The highlight of the day was participation in “Suikerkaskanades” which the seniors thoroughly enjoyed. The spectators consisted of the apostle, the two bishops and most the ministers of the congregations in the apostle area. The crowd cheered, jeered at disappointments and sang all the way through to the end of the day. Having experienced such a truly enjoyable day, the seniors requested that this be an annual event. Bishop Lutuli awarded various trophies to the winners and closed the day off with a prayer.
