Kleinmond witnesses the turning of the sod |
On Sunday 8 February 2009 Bishop C van Wyk turned the first sod at the site where the church for the congregation of Kleinmond will soon stand.
This site is blest with beautiful examples of God’s creation, mountain views at the back and the Indian Ocean in the front. The members in Kleinmond have waited for 36 years for a church to be built and judging by its location it was well worth the wait. The congregation, from the youngest to the oldest, joined in and enthusiastically also assisted by turning a sod or two themselves. This festive occasion was celebrated with a prayer, a scripture reading and a light lunch. The presence of the retired Bishop W Vollenhoven and the District Elder E Atwood also added a festive atmosphere to this ceremony. The congregation started from humble beginnings in 1973 when District Evangelist P Kock sent Deacon C Gabriels to testify in Kleinmond. The Bantom family were the first to accept the testimony and from then onwards the congregation grew from strength to strength.
