On Thursday 19 November 2009 the congregation of Avondale was alive with songs of praise as the orchestra and choir rendered beautiful anthems in preparation for the divine service which was conducted by Apostle C van der Merwe in their congregation.

Special moments of spiritual satisfaction were experienced when the Apostle shared insights with the members on the text which spoke about the disciples leaving all that was of earthly value behind and following Jesus. The congregation could relate to this in a very special way. For those present this was a festive divine service as they witnessed 29 souls being added to the fold through the Act of Holy Sealing. There was also the retirement of Priest V Fredericks and the ordination of five deacons.
After service one of souls who was sealed presented the Apostle with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of her late three month old daughter who had passed away a month previously; she too would have been sealed on this night.
