Recorder jamboree for young and old

DSC00722In Apostle C van der Merwe’s area of responsibility an annual recorder jamboree has become part of the programme of activities for the year.

This gathering of recorder players serves to foster fellowship among the musicians. Within the first year of the jamboree taking place there has been remarkable growth with many of those previously participating having progressed to now play other musical instruments.

This year was therefore no exception with Kensington bishop area’s jamboree taking place on Saturday 17 October 2009 at Tableview congregation and West coast bishop area’s one on Sunday 18 October 2009 at Saxonsea congregation. Approximately 1 000 recorder players participated in the event with the youngest player being six years old and oldest 70 years old – once again demonstrating that you are never too young or too old to learn something new.
