Church Dedications
The pride of Concordia East
Accompanied by Apostles A Kriel, G Mintoor and the Bishops P Thompson and N Warner, District Apostle N Barnes dedicated the Concordia East Church building on Sunday 4 May 2008. In dedicating this beautiful building to the honour of the Lord, the District Apostle based the service on the text word taken from 2 Chronicles 29:5 “. . . sanctify yourselves, sanctify the house of the Lord . . .” The Concordia East congregation was born out of the old Concordia congregation which is currently known as Concordia West and was established in June 1985. Because of the growth in the work of the Lord in this area a satellite congregation had to be formed, hence the birth of Concordia East. In April 2007, the then Bishop H Swartbooi officiated the turning of the sod ceremony on this building site and a little more than a year later the pride of the Concordia East congregation could be dedicated. Shepherd F Andrews was handed the keys to the church as the rector of the congregation. Without wasting any time the District Apostle planted the first tree in the grounds of the church grounds and the Mayor of Knysna, Mrs. Eleanore Bouw-Spies, was also present to lend a hand. That afternoon saw some 350 members and guests entertained to a festive music concert that lifted dispositions to new heights of assurance and joy.
Magnolia church building dedicated
Being patience paid off for the congregants of the Magnolia congregation in the Kraaifontein bishop area. Following years of waiting for a place of worship this congregation finally saw the dedication of their picturesque church building on Sunday 28 October 2007 by Apostle J Stephens. As a basis for this service the apostle used the word from the book of Psalms 84 verses 4 and 7, “Blessed are those who dwell in Your house . . . They go from strength to strength”
Taking you back a little; a small shopping complex was bought by the church in May 1996 and this served as the congregation’s temporary place of worship. Two years later plans for its renovation were made known to the congregants, who had to find alternative venues for worship. The original building was then demolished and the construction of the new church started.
Upon completion the keys to this beautiful church building could now be handed over to the rector of the congregation, Shepherd CG Solomons, with the congregation of over 600 souls as witnesses. Leading up to this day, the congregation was in preparation for months, helping with the final touches to the building and holding choir and orchestra practises in an effort to make this day a memorable one.
A choral hour held that afternoon saw the culmination of the labours of the congregants. Officiated by Bishop J Bucchianeri, this choral hour saw the attendance of the Magnolia ward councillor and the principal of the Magnolia Primary school who are well know figures in this community.
