New Apostolic Church Cape

District Apostle Noel Barnes always looks for something exciting for the children and youth to do. He thus decided that the children of the greater Cape Town area should have a very different Day of the Child, which would be a highlight for them in their Sunday school career.

A whole programme of activities was set in motion, not least the encouragement of the children to learn to play the recorder.

A week before the divine service with the district apostle the children visited hospitals, old age homes and other institutions to bring a ray of light into the lives of the patients and inmates there. They sang, made music and handed over a bottle of flavoured mineral water with the Church's emblem on it to each patient.

The theme of the divine services - conducted in the Good Hope Centre - was water, and how precious this is naturally and spiritually. There were many surprises for the children: a functional water wheel, a fountain - both of which were activated during the service - soloists playing various instruments and when they left, a party pack.

The children were also successful in their attempt to break the Guinness book of records for the most recorders playing at one time.

Judging by the comments that were heard after this Day of the Child the excitement of what had taken place will live for a long time in the memories of the children.

Sunday school tuition forms an integral part of the spiritual care of the children of the New Apostolic Church
